Guru Shree Shekhar Tanjorkar

(1950 to present)

Guru Shree Shekhar Tanjorkar is a popular violinist amongst Indian Classical Music. His widespread knowledge of both major sub -genres of Indian Classical Music has come from his very own Father -Guru Janardhan Tanjorkar.

He has graced numerous performing platforms across the world and has created a huge fan follower wherever he has performed.

Guru Tanjavur Appaswamy Tanjorkar

(1870-1935)

 A Mridunga Vidhwaan, Vocalist and a popular Natuvanaar who nutured his children with Carnatic Music in a traditional Gurukul style of teaching.

Sarfoji Maharaj III who married the princes of Tanjore, wanted him and his wife Guru Tanjavur Kanthimathi Amma to travel the nation with them. Thus Carnatic (South Indian) music made its toddler steps towards North of India contributing widely to the cultural exchange within the nation.

 

 

 

 

Vidhwaan Janardhan Tanjorkar

(1913-1980)

Born on 13th August 1913, eldest son of the great dancer, pandit( master) and a linguist popularly known as Tanjavur Kanthimathi Amma and Mridungam Vidhwaan Tanjavur Appaswamy Tanjorkar who were the 1st to bring South Indian tradition of dance & music to the North of India... He was a disciple of Kumbakonam Narayanswamy Iyer and Palaghat Iyer where he 1st learnt Mridungam and Carnatic Vocal under Guru Shihya Parampara (tradition). He later learnt Hindusthani Vocal from Faiyaz Khan. His inquisitive nature allowed him to learn and absorb new techniques and styles as he travelled across the world concerting. This multi-instrumentalist then moved to Mumbai then Bombay as a graded artist at the All India Radio in both Violin and Vocal to name a few... Known to be tough man from outside yet very humble, loving and caring...

Vidhwaan Janardhan Tanjorkar was a multi-instrumentalist. He was a perfectionist and always taught his shishyaas (disciples) to follow the same. He was an ocean of knowledge in all forms of Indian Music which is musically transformed to his son Shekhar Tanjorkar.

Guru Smt. Kathimathi Amma

A renowned Bharat Natyam dancer, vocalist, poet, a Sanskrit Pandit and a linguist who was one of the few musicians who has contributed extensively to in bringing Carnatic Music to North India. Her contribution to the world of music and dance cannot be measured.
